Leaf Rx

Overview
Leaf Rx is a user-friendly mobile app designed to help plant enthusiasts identify and address issues with their houseplants. Leveraging AI-powered plant identification, personalized treatment recommendations, and a vibrant plant care community, Leaf Rx empowers users to keep their plants healthy.
Project Role
Lead UX Researcher, UX Designer
Prompt
Design an app that helps customers diagnose issues with their houseplants.
Problem
Houseplant owners often struggle to diagnose plant issues like disease, pests, or improper care. Searching for solutions online can be overwhelming and time-consuming.

Solution
I designed Leaf Rx to simplify plant care. The app allows users to:
-
Identify plants using AI-powered image recognition.
-
Diagnose issues such as overwatering, pests, or disease.
-
Receive actionable treatment plans tailored to their plant’s needs.
-
Connect with a community of plant enthusiasts.
-
Track plant growth and access exclusive deals.
Features
-
AI-Powered Plant Identification: Snap a photo to identify plants and pinpoint issues.
-
Personalized Treatment Plans: Step-by-step solutions for plant recovery.
-
My Garden: Track plant health and organize care schedules.
-
Community Hub: Share tips, showcase plants, and interact with other users.
-
Deals & Insights: Access plant care deals and expert resources.
Design Process
-
Research:
-
Utilized provided biographies to identify pain points (e.g., unclear plant symptoms, difficulty accessing credible solutions).
-
Analyzed existing apps for opportunities to improve functionality.
-
-
User Flows:
Created a smooth onboarding experience and intuitive navigation so users could identify issues quickly. -
Wireframing & Prototyping:
Developed low-fidelity wireframes, progressing to high-fidelity prototypes in Figma. -
Usability Testing:
-
Conducted usability tests to refine flows.
-
Improved clarity in plant diagnosis and treatment sections.

Patterns & Insights
It was observed that 4 out of 5 participants were confused by the difference between “My Garden” feature and “Archive” in the initial design. This means that Archive needs to be better defined by name or icon and/or have explanation on Home page of process.

It was observed that 4 out of 5 participants were distracted by the bottom bar/other features while trying to complete the core task in the initial design. This means that the bottom bar should be removed while completing the core task only.
It was observed that 3 out of 5 participants were uncertain what the “My Garden” feature would be used for in the initial design. This means that there needs to be an explanation of what the “My Garden” feature can be used for.
It was observed that 3 out of 5 participants were uncertain what the Archive is for in the initial design. This means that Archive needs a better name of icon to define its purpose.

Outcome
-
Successfully designed a clean, intuitive app interface that prioritizes simplicity and ease of use.
-
Addressed a real user need with a seamless diagnosis and treatment process.
Reflection
This project taught me how to balance functionality and user experience while designing for clarity. I gained hands-on experience in wireframing, prototyping, and usability testing—skills I look forward to applying in future UX design roles
